View this email in your browser October 2, 2024 Rep. Walle Invited to White House for Child Care Discussions On Sept. 27, Rep. Armando Walle attended the White House's State Convening on Child Care. This event brought together leaders from across the country to discuss solutions for the ongoing child care crisis and share innovative strategies to support working families. Rep. Walle's participation underscores his commitment to advocating for affordable, high-quality child care solutions in Texas, aligning with national efforts to address this critical issue. Last Session, Rep. Walle fought for a $2.3 billion investment in the state budget to stabilize child care funding across the state. Although this funding did not make it into the final version of the state budget, Rep. Walle continues to work on potential solutions or funding opportunities to address this crisis during the next Legislative Session. Rep. Walle Speaks on AI, Child Care at TribFest Rep. Walle was invited to speak on two panels during this year’s Texas Tribune festival early last month. This year’s festival featured over 100 sessions focused on key political and policy issues. Rep. Walle joined the “AI & All of Us” and “The Child Care Crisis” panels at the event, speaking to his experience as a member of the Texas House Artificial Intelligence Select and Texas House Appropriations Committees. House District 140 Open House on October 5th Earlier this summer, Rep. Walle moved his district office to BakerRipley in East Aldine. To celebrate the new location, constituents are invited to an open house on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11:00am-2:00pm at the new location (2909 East Aldine Amphitheatre Drive, Houston, TX 77039). Walle Speak Out Against Rising Water Rates for Undine Customers at Town Hall On Sept. 10, Rep. Walle held a town hall with Bellmar Civic Club, Undine LLC and the Public Utility Commission of Texas to listen to constituent concerns about rising water bills. The issue dates back to Undine LLC’s acquisition of a different utility provider in the Bellmar and Northline Neighborhoods. Affected residents strongly voiced their opposition to and concerns about the increasing costs for water. During the meeting, Undine proposed gradually implementing the rate increase over a three-year period to spread out the financial impact over time. Rep. Walle is working closely with the the Public Utility Commission to hold Undine accountable to its proposal, and urge immediate action to provide residents relief. In the meantime, residents should contact the District Office at (281) 442-2206 to report concerns. Rep. Walle Visits IBEW Local 66 Last month, Rep. Walle visited the IBEW Local 66 to meet with union representatives and discuss how their linemen are doing following Hurricane Beryl. During the meeting, they discussed potential improvements that could be made to our grid infrastructure that would also keep workers safe when performing maintenance on lines. Lone Star College Kingwood Demonstrates Medical Workforce Training Lone Star College Kingwood invited Rep. Walle to tour its Health Professions Campus and see their state-of-the-art facilities for training students in a variety of medical occupations. Oct. 12th 9:30am (Esp.) | Aldine 11:30am (Eng.) | Aldine First Time Voter Training The Latino Democrat Assembly and the Harris County Democratic Party are hosting a training for first-time voters to learn everything you need to know to vote in Harris County. Electric Vehicle Task Force Publishes Report On Sept. 30, the Texas Department of Transportation distributed a report on medium and heavy duty electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The report is the final work product of the interagency task force that was convened in accordance with a rider in the 2023 state budget, which Rep. Walle authored. Click here to learn more. Interim Committee Hearings Throughout September, Rep. Walle attended two interim committee hearings for the House Appropriations Committee. The meetings followed up on key budgetary changes made during the last Legislative Session — including the creation of the $1 billion Centennial Parks Conservation Fund, which Rep. Walle authored. House District 140 Fundraiser Join Rep. Walle on Saturday, Oct. 26 at City Acre Brewing in House District 140 for a happy hour fundraiser in support of his re-election campaign.
