Friends and Neighbors:
On January 14th, I was sworn-in at the Texas Legislature to serve my 9th term in the Texas House of Representatives. It is the honor of a lifetime to serve as the State Representative for House District 140. I get to represent friends, neighbors and communities that I have known since I was born. It’s a responsibility I do not take lightly.
This time of year is usually the most difficult for any lawmaker, and the 89th Legislative Session is proving to be no different. Earlier this month, the governor spelled out a list of priorities in his State of the State address that I am gravely concerned about. Once again, I will be fighting back against extremist, fiscally irresponsible policies that will divert taxpayer dollars away from public schools. I remain committed to protecting our neighborhood schools, the educators that work there and the families they serve.
I feel hopeful, though, that I can keep my nose to the grindstone and do good work this Legislative Session that will make lives better back home in Harris County. I’ll keep pushing for transformational investments in our flood control infrastructure and holding high-emission industries accountable to keep the air we breathe clean.
I plan to stay active in the drafting of the state budget. We’ve got to increase funding to shore up our child care providers and draw down federal matching funds to feed hungry school kids. We also need to support efforts to improve opportunities for workforce training and upskilling — and increase the number of good jobs available.
In spite of the tough political environment I’m working in, I still believe this can be a good Session for House District 140. I still believe I can work across the aisle with my colleagues on legislation that helps everyday Texans like you and me.
My office is always open to you. We want to hear from you. You can always reach me via email at armando.walle@house.texas.gov, or by phone at (281) 442-2206.
