Rep. Armando Walle Celebrates Water Utility Win for Ratepayers in Bellmar, Northline Subdivisions
(Houston, TEXAS) – Earlier this week, the Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUC) published a Corrected Notice of Approval enhancing the consumer protections as Undine Texas, LLC’s acquires 710 water connections in the Bellmar and Northline subdivisions in North Harris County. The changes follow weeks of advocacy with the PUC by State Rep. Armando Walle — who represents House District 140, which covers the affected communities — and Bellmar Estates Civic Club.
In September, Rep. Walle collaborated with Bellmar Estates Civic Club to host a town hall with the PUC and Undine for ratepayers to voice concerns over skyrocketing utility bills. On Oct. 10, Rep. Walle filed a letter with the PUC echoing those concerns and urging the parties involved to move forward with a three-year timeline to gradually implement rate increases, and for Undine to refund customers who paid the initial higher rates. The PUC and Undine’s most recent filing meets both of those requests.
Rep. Walle released the following statement on the Corrected Notice of Approval:
“My constituents in Bellmar and Northline have been crushed under the weight of water utility bills suddenly doubling and tripling in cost during Undine’s acquisition of connections in my district. I am heartened to see the Public Utilities Commission and Undine work together to respond to the concerns of the folks in House District 140. I pledge to continue doing everything in my power as a state representative to ensuring the residents of Harris County — and all Texans — have access to clean water at a reasonable rate.”
